About me

I have just graduated from Durham University with a 2:1 in Chemistry and I am taking the year out to do volunteering, go travelling and gain as much experience teaching and tutoring as possible. I'm hoping to do teacher training the year after!

I have lots of experience tutoring KS3, GCSE and A-level Science and Maths (including for homeschooled students!). I recently completed a 40 hour placement as a Chemistry teacher in a local school and I have had a job writing revision notes for an online revision site.

During my "gap year" I'm available for one off and last minute tutorials to work on a piece of homework, for guidance on a specific topic or for help with revision for an exam or mock. I'm also happy to offer intense "revision courses" in preparation for an exam and will tailor everything to your needs and preferred style. Also, I'm passionate about supporting homeschooling parents and students with their learning. I will offer regular weekly tutorials when possible too.

I am described by people I have tutors in the past as being patience, enthusiastic, motivational, clear and good at explaining concepts. I love helping others enjoy these subjects and get the most out of studying them. I can't wait to meet you and to help you reach your potential and to enjoy studying science and maths together.

About my sessions

I am very flexible with how I structure tutorials, I will adapt to fit what with how you learn best and what you want to get from the tutorials. For a start, how about suggesting a topic you are finding challenging or have questions about? Then we can talk through the concepts and understand them, and then apply that to some past exam questions.

Growing up I have always had such a strong passion for Science and learning how things work, and more importantly why. I really love all Science and Maths, but particularly Chemistry, because it gives me an amazing understanding about the world around me and how intricate and incredible it is. This reflects in how I learn and how I teach. I think it is great to enjoy the subject you are learning and to delve deeper to understand the processes, concepts and methods instead of memorising them, because it really benefits in the exams and because you get so much more out of it. I apply this strategy to all my teaching, ensuring that all your questions are answered and that you understand why and how instead of just learning what.

A really great first tutorial, any questions I had Eleanor was able to explain things really well. Eleanor also gave me multiple methods to answer a question which I found very helpful. Looking forward to our next lesson. Many thanks James
