About me

Hi, my name is Isabelle! I'm currently a first year politics student at the University of Exeter.

It is often hard to grasp and review politics through an educational lens given its disputed nature in history and its implications over our future. As a politics student myself, despite the vast amount of historical content online, I've felt that educational resources are limited in these fields. Not to mention the lack of attentiveness and impersonality that some teachers possess amongst a group of 30 other pupils.

My individual experience with history and politics are extremely positive. However, I do not believe I would have gained the same outcome without vigorous perseverance and commitment to my studies. With an A* in Government and Politics A Level, an A in History A Level and an A* in History GCSE under my belt, my constant determination paid off in the end.

From ideological history to the study of 20th century US foreign policy, my interests are broad. However, my passion lies within modern political affairs and developments, in particular Brexit and the changing role of the media. In 2019, I achieved the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate; my Individual Project was dedicated to the study of the evolving nature of voting behaviour within the UK. My research skills have taken flight from there and I am no longer a stranger to educating myself outside of my studies.

About my sessions

Throughout my A Level studies, I had made vigorous notes that addressed content, context and explanations of each topic. As a GCSE and A Level student it will be essential that notes are precise and relevant, since this is what will be referenced whilst revising! Therefore, teaching how to note take and prepare revision materials will lie at the centre of my teaching.

Not only this, but I have found that students can revise over 100 hours a week, and still encounter low exam results. With subjective subjects like History and Politics, you could know everything in regard to course content, yet without exam preparation and essay structural help, you are practically setting yourself up for failure! Yes, revising course content is pivotal, but the best students are can adapt to any exam question thrown at them with adaptation and pragmatism. This is why, I tend to focus on essay writing techniques and explanation of core themes that are found within topics.

Isabelle, is a very approachable and helpful tutor, who covers topics off in depth, and makes it easier to understand the topics in hand. She also develops key revision notes for my daughter, covering off History topics, which is of great value during the exam period. I would highly recommend this tutor.
