About me

¡Hola! I'm Sydony -  a trainee Spanish teacher based in South-West London! I did Spanish and Portuguese at Oxford University. Languages are great fun; they're all about communication and interaction, so be ready for a lively, stimulating tutorial.

My availability over the holidays is very flexible, and during term-time tutorials would be mostly in the evening and at weekends. As a teacher, I have plenty of resources and experience to offer! I'm hugely into Latin American and Spanish film so would love to help with that element of any course you are doing. I have also studied linguistics as part of my course at uni - meaning I can help you get to grips with why things do the things they do in languages.

Struggling with memory myself, I'm a huge fan of acronyms and mnemonics to help us remember vocab and tense formation/conjugation, so if you struggle to remember things - I'm your gal!

My key is to tap into the student's way of thinking, the way of learning in which each individual feels they can engage most; that way, it won't even feel like they're studying at all.

About my sessions

I'll plan my tutorials in advance like I would a normal lesson, so you would tell me at our initial meeting what exactly you will be needing my help and I'll draw up the plans for the process from there. My tutorials will take the following lesson structure.

1) A Connect Activity - to connect any new things you want to learn to what you already know. Here we will also cover the vocab for the lesson / part of the content you need to know.

2) An Activate Activity - I'll help you get to grips with understanding any grammatical elements you needed to cover; this will be less about me talking at you but more about me helping you discover the knowledge yourself, and then me explaining why things do the things they do in language!

3) A Demonstrate Activity - in some kind of activity like a virtual sheet or speaking activity between us, you will demonstrate to me how well you understand what we have done, so we can clear up any final misconceptions.

4) A Consolidate Activity - to close off the lesson, we will do something fun or a quick final task to get everytng stuck in your head before we go our separate ways!
