About me

I am a third year Chemical Physics student at University of Glasgow who has a great passion for the subjects I study and a great respect for the field of teaching. Since I was in my third Kinross High School, I have been fascinated by the pure sciences and have known that Chemistry and Physics would be the subjects I would study at a higher level. Since I was in my third Kinross High School, I have been fascinated by the pure sciences and have known that Chemistry and Physics would be the subjects I would study at a higher level. Physics, to me at least, has an underlying beauty that makes it incredibly rewarding to study; unwinding the principle that hold are universe together is what physics is all about, and whilst it requires a lot of mathematics, its core ideas are strangely beautiful if taught properly.

I was lucky enough to have some incredibly passionate teachers who not only taught me a lot about their respective subjects but also who imparted their love of learning and teaching. I spent my later years in high school helping other student in a small-group tutor program as well as being head boy in my final year. These experiences have taught me much about how high school students behave and learn and began to develop my teaching skills at a fairly early age.

I hope that I will be able to not only help my students to pass an exam and learn course content, but to be able to make them a better learner for future and show them the simple beauty of physics that I feel is too often lost in a class room, perhaps inspiring them to pursue the subject further on.

To understand a students current knowledge and thinking process is vital for a tutor to be able help the student understand the subject. I believe teaching is a synergetic process as communication need to happen in both directions for it to be most effective. To understand a students current knowledge and thinking process is vital for a tutor to be able help the student understand the subject. Therefore my sessions will be based around the student first and fore most.

In the first few sessions will be understanding the level of comprehension my student has, reviewing National 5 material and beginning to understand my short comings in physics, whether that be mathematical or more with content of course. Conquering these short comings will be vital to succeeding at higher physics. One I have identified the students problems, I will then aim to run through the course content with the student, ideally in parallel with the students school teacher as it will be easier for the student to explain to me what they don't understand. Explaining physics in different ways is a great way of really understanding the subject.

Finally in the run up to prelims and may exams, we will spend a lot of time doing example questions and past papers as this is hands down the best way to learn physics; practice, practice, practice! Dissecting the students answers and talking through question they have found difficult will mean they will feel so much more confident come the final exam.
