About me

I chose to study maths at university solely because it has honestly always been my favourite subject. I chose to study maths at university solely because it has honestly always been my favourite subject. As I arrived at the UCAS stage of sixth form I was most intrigued at what else maths had to offer past the A-Level stage, which was much broader than I’d ever imagined. The way that maths plays a part in so many different aspects of life is amazing to me – for example biomathematics, which studies how maths can be used to model the processes happening inside our bodies, organs, tissues and cells. Maths is such an integral part of everything around us, that it gives me pleasure to be able to teach this subject to others, so they too have the ability to gain a deeper understanding of it. Maths hasn’t always come easily to me however, so I am able to understand students’ queries and struggles with it and can help them work through it, by breaking down complex problems into simpler ones, and going through processes step by step at a pace that suits them. Exercises are so crucial in maths and therefore I will go through many examples, allowing the student to fill in what they know, and for parts they find more difficult, I will give them a gentle nudge in the right direction. I hope to develop a deeper understanding of concepts in maths, as I think this helps to solve problems in exams that they may not have previously come across. I am very excited to have this opportunity to help students further their mathematical abilities and pass their exams!

About my sessions

My sessions will have a relaxed structure in order to give time for students to ask questions as freely as they wish, as I would like to ensure that they have fully understood the topic. My sessions will have a relaxed structure in order to give time for students to ask questions as freely as they wish, as I would like to ensure that they have fully understood the topic. The general structure of lessons will be firstly introducing a topic or subtopic, working through simple examples and then allowing the student to try some themselves. Once the simpler problems have been tackled and understood, I will gradually introduce harder problems, so that before they know it, they have completed a topic. I understand that learning is not often easy and fun, but I’ll try my best to give the Online Lessons a happy, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, where students don’t feel the pressure they may get from teachers at school. Before the lesson begins, I will ensure that I already know what topic the student wishes to cover, and thus have relevant questions and solutions ready without hesitation. Progress will be noted in terms of how frequently they need hints when working through questions together, as well as how many questions the student answers correctly in any given session. Once I see that they are confident with answering questions and have had a direct conversation with them about the topic, I will take that as a sign to move on. I am also more than happy to change the lesson structure to suit the student’s needs and welcome any feedback to the lessons, which I can work on.
