About me

Hello! I'm Aimee, a first-year comparative literature student at University College London. I chose the degree that I am doing as it enables me to study literature from across the globe alongside allowing me to continue to study Spanish. Being the huge bookworm that I am, I hope to be able to inspire a similar love for English in those that I tutor! Having achieved 9s at GCSE and an A* at A-Level, I would love to be able to pass on all of my tips and tricks! Outside of academia, I enjoy d...

Outside of academia, I enjoy dancing and running for my university. I also enjoy exploring the city that I live in and of course... reading! Until now, I have balanced having a weekend job alongside my studies as well as being a committed dancer of 14 years. Having not long completed my GCSEs and A-Levels myself, I am very familiar with the new 1-9 marking system for GCSE, and I understand the importance of writing in a way that coincides with the new system. Additionally, having sat my A-Level in English Literature in 2019, I am equally aware of the structure required for writing a top-band essay. Having tutored throughout my secondary school experience, I feel confident in dealing with a wide range of students at all levels. I have previously mentored year 10, 11 and 12 students. I aim to teach in a way that makes the subject seem less daunting and more fun! I am also more than happy to answer any questions surrounding UCAS applications and university interviews, having just experienced these things for myself!

About my sessions

I structure my sessions in a way that is tailored for each individual. This includes focusing on the areas that they feel most uncomfortable with as well as teaching in a way that is most beneficial for the student.

I structure my sessions in a way that is tailored for each individual. This includes focusing on the areas that they feel most uncomfortable with as well as teaching in a way that is most beneficial for the student.

A significant part of studying English is the technique required to write an essay. In each session, I intend to include a writing exercise in which we will discuss the best way to approach various essay questions, as well as looking at how to structure work. The student must also have a good understanding of the texts and their use of themes, characters, literary techniques and quotations. In order to engage with these aspects, I will use text-specific exercises to assist with the overall understanding of the texts and their meanings. For revision, I have always favoured the use of flashcards when revising English they are a quick and easy way of assessing exactly what I don’t know. Also, mind-maps help to establish connections within work, and this has proved useful when writing essays. In my tutorials, I hope to debunk the myth that English is impossible to revise for, by providing many effective ways that have worked for me! The versatility of these learning techniques will enable them to be applied to all subjects, allowing more than just your English grade to improve! To track progress, I am keen to go through any work and discuss areas for improvement. I also intend to provide exemplar answers to develop exam technique.
