Hello and welcome to my tutor profile. Hello and welcome to my tutor profile. I’m Tabitha, a recent English Graduate from Warwick University, I achieved a 2.1 in my degree and specialised in Shakespeare and his contemporaries, American Culture and Literature from the 1700’s onwards, Gothic Literature and Science Fiction. I love English Literature because I think the fact humans are still discussing texts written hundreds of years ago is amazing. The power of the written word never fails to amaze me. What I think is so important about English and Theatre, is that they are both subjects that give you skills that are so valuable to have in adult life, and the world at large once you leave full-time education. Both subjects teach one how to communicate, how to express themselves, how to apply for jobs, how to ask for promotions, how to effectively and concisely communicate an argument.

I want to help as many students as I can by sharing my passion for the subjects, and hopefully inciting some passion in them too! Building confidence in themselves is crucially important, and I want all students to know they are completely capable of creating brilliant responses. The lovely thing about the two subjects I teach, is that both subjects by nature do not demand specific answers from students. They are subjects which ask students to think in a range of ways, and express their own opinions from what they have studied in a clear way.

About my sessions

My lessons are uniquely structured and catered to the individual students. The free meeting is incredibly important to establish exactly what the student and parent want from the lessons. My lessons are uniquely structured and catered to the individual students. The free meeting is incredibly important to establish exactly what the student and parent want from the lessons. It’s where I note down your exam board, the texts you study, your stronger areas, your weaker areas, and ask you questions about your learning style. In the first lesson I teach my students how to properly structure and write a GCSE or A-Level essay, from there I try lots of different teaching methods to establish their learning style and from there I can structure future lessons that are bespoke to the specific student.

My lessons are structured into three parts, I create three lesson objectives and base the lesson on these three topics I wish to achieve. At the end of the lesson, I check in with the student and ask them if they feel these objectives have been achieved. I will also focus on exam technique, revision technique, a detailed and in-depth breakdown of how to answer each question on the exam paper, building confidence and ability in their writing, reading and comprehension skills and offering further suggestions for homework or reading if they should so wish.

I also offer the option for parents to receive lesson reports if they wish, this allows both them and I to track the progress of the student, and definitively prove that the students are improving - which they often don’t see until I show them their reports!
