About me

I am currently a second year student at Loughborough University, reading Bsc Psychology. I achieved a first class honours in my first year and am on track for similar results this year. I am currently a second year student at Loughborough University, reading Bsc Psychology. I achieved a first class honours in my first year and am on track for similar results this year. Psychology is immensely unique as everyone uses it on a daily basis, whether they are talking with friends or disciplining their children. By studying the subject in depth we are able to learn more about how, and the reasons behind why we behave as we do. Upon beginning my A Levels my motivation and focus to studying psychology started to develop, however, I convinced myself that because maths was my weak point I would struggle to take it further at University… I was wrong. I have learnt to enjoy the quantitative side of Psychology because in fact it's not maths, it’s research which is far more exciting! This demonstrates to any student even if you struggle with that subject area, hard work and determination can go a long way. I am a keen showjumper and compete locally as well as for Loughborough University Equestrian Team. Alongside this, I am the vice chairman and welfare rep for the Equestrian team. I regularly participate in tennis as a recreation sport. To maintain my fitness, I regularly attend the gym. I persistently aim high and I believe through my knowledge and experience I will be able to positively push individuals to the best of their capabilities.

About my sessions

Understanding the type of individual I am teaching is essential to accessing the difficulties they are facing. I will often try a variety of teaching techniques in order to fathom the most effective way of helping my students understand a subject/topic. Understanding the type of individual I am teaching is essential to accessing the difficulties they are facing. I will often try a variety of teaching techniques in order to fathom the most effective way of helping my students understand a subject/topic. While my guidance is important to keeping students on task and motivated, allowing students to have some choice and control over what happens in the session is actually one of the best ways to keep them engaged. I allow my students to choose the type of content/questions they want to tackle. I will encourage my students to send me work they have completed outside the session; be it a past paper or homework and offer them advice and feedback. My sessions are very much centred around the individual and their current needs and goals. I tend to begin by outlining established content or difficulties. I will then ask the student to in turn teach and explain to me the same concept/theories as I believe it is an authentic way to build confidence. I will always round up each session by addressing some questions e.g. past paper questions. This will ultimately prepare students further for examinations.
