About me

Hi there! I'm Madison, and I have just graduated from the University of Exeter with a First Class History degree. I have a real passion both for History and for helping others, so I have decided to become a tutor as I'd love to help any student who feels they are struggling. As well as History, I also achieved an A* in Geography A Level, so I am happy to tutor students studying History or Geography GCSE. History is so important in understanding how our world is today, I loved History at school and this has continued while broadening my knowledge at university. I also enjoyed studying Geography at sixth form, as I believe it is also very relevant in the world today. I'd love to help students who want to reach their true potential, and will guide them through the process of revising for exams. I am happy to offer support with understanding material, or working through exam answers together as at this level of study, good exam technique is absolutely essential. I hope that I can boost your confidence and help you to improve your grades in your exams. Please get in touch to arrange a first meeting in which we can discuss what exactly you're studying and need help with in order to make the most of tutorials.

About my sessions

I believe that in History, the key to success in exams is the balance between evidence and analysis. Learning the key facts is essential but will mean nothing in an essay answer without relevant analysis or a clear argument, and good essay structure is also crucial. Therefore, my tutorials will place emphasis on exam answers and planning/practising exam answers. However, I am more than happy to focus on whatever would be best for you- whether you need things explained or practising exam questions. Obviously the specifications for different exam boards/exam levels differ broadly, and when I took my exams I only studied a certain number of topics. However, I will spend the sufficient time planning and preparing for tutorials especially when the content you are studying is something I am not as familiar with. At GCSE I studied 1930s/40s Germany and the Cold War, and at A Level I studied the Wars of the Roses and the Tudors. My historical knowledge is now quite broad after three years of university, and I hope my passion for this subject in particular is something I can share. I think the most important thing when studying for GCSE/A Level exams is always to aim high and never doubt yourself. Sometimes at school your confidence can be knocked by poor marks or teachers, and I will try my best to try and improve your grades and self-confidence at the same time, to allow you to really fulfil your potential in your exams.
