About me

Hi I'm Harry and I'm a third year undergraduate at Durham university studying Spanish and Italian. I've just got back from my year abroad- I studied at a university in Santiago, Chile, and worked in Turin, Italy. Having achieved an A* at A-Level and GSCE Spanish, my knowledge of grammar and the areas covered at these stages is excellent. I would be a flexible tutor, prioritising helping students with whatever difficulties they may have. I love everything about studying Spanish and...

I love everything about studying Spanish and Italian, from the seemingly mundane exercise of learning vocab to exploring Latin American and Italian literature.

Having been through the university application process myself, I would also to be able to provide advice on this front. I know it can often be portrayed as a mammoth task, but with the right organisation we can make the whole thing a lot easier.

Besides studying I play lacrosse and volleyball, and play the drums in a small band. I would love to tutor Spanish to students of all levels.

About my sessions

Tutorials would begin with an opportunity for the student to ask about any topics they're struggling with. We would then move on to working on a specific piece of grammar or range of vocabulary, especially higher level structures and words which impress examiners. Once we've grasped this, we could try and apply it to a past paper question and discuss how we can use what we've learned effectively. A reasonable amount of time can be set aside each lesson for a conversation in Spanis...

A reasonable amount of time can be set aside each lesson for a conversation in Spanish or Italian, which will improve the student's oral skills. Finally I would like to end each tutorial with a brief segment about Hispanic or Italian culture, which will hopefully inspire the student to continue their studies in the language and understand how the knowledge of language can be applied.

All of the above could of course be altered for time constraints and depending on what the student wants to focus on.

In terms of achieving goals, we would first establish what grade the student is aiming towards. I would then ask for a completed past paper or for the student to do a short piece of writing, which I would use to evaluate which areas need most improvement. We would work on these areas in the following lessons and then follow up with a similar essay or reading or listening exercise a couple of weeks later to see if they have made progress.
