About me

I am currently a full time student at the University of Edinburgh and I will be entering my 4th year of study of a Masters (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering in the summer of 2019. I am a 2:1 student whilst also competing for the university swim team at a national and international level which means I train nearly 23 hours a week! Being able to cope with such a demanding workload as well as the intensity of my swimming training highlights my dedication and commitment as well as my exceptional time management skills.

I am extremely passionate about all STEM subjects, having studied them throughout my own school career, and I wish to help inspire younger generations to grow to love the subjects as much as I have. I love finding new ways to think about problems and helping others to follow my logic and come to a final answer. This makes me an ideal candidate for a tutor as I understand that everyone's mind works differently and can appreciate some patience can go a long way in helping another persons understanding of a problem.

Throughout my education I have lived by the words 'practice makes perfect'. I feel as though the best way to prepare and further your understanding of a subject is to test yourself by answering as many questions as you can. By answering different problems you solidify your understanding of the fundamental theory behind the topic and expand your knowledge by trialling various approaches in the process of determining the solution. Once the fundamentals are in place, understanding the problem solving process is the key to success.

As such I would always start a lesson by asking the student what topic they would like to cover or if there was a particular topic with which they were struggling. Initially, I would go over the fundamental theory behind the topic to ensure the student has an understanding of topic before tackling any questions. Once the theory is in place, I would then test their knowledge by getting them to answer increasingly difficult questions found in past papers or textbooks which would be of a similar standard to that of which they would be faced with in an exam. I would continue this until the knowledge is cemented in place and the student is confident in themselves about their ability to tackle problems on the topic.
