About me

I'm a recent Engineering Graduate from the University of Bristol and I am passionate about changing the way we produce and use energy; I have spent time surveying power transmission networks in rural Tanzania, designed PV systems and help run the UK’s first small-scale wood-gas co-generation plant on my family farm in Herefordshire. My latest efforts have been with Metronome Energy, a start-up providing energy management services to farm businesses.

My latest efforts have been with Metronome Energy, a start-up providing energy management services to farm businesses.

Having a good foundation in maths and science has enabled me to pursue this passion and given me the confidence to take on challenging technical problems. I want to help others build their foundations, so that they can be more confident when it comes to problem solving and at the same time feel less anxious about tackling exams.

In my free time I am an avid traveller and photographer, having worked abroad and completed a trip around South America. I am also a keen skier and have competed in events with the university snow-sports club as well as helped coach beginners.

About my sessions

I tend to tailor my lessons on an individual basis depending on what areas students need help with. This means spending up to an hour preparing for an online lesson where I'll find relevant material from a library of example questions, past-papers and mark schemes that have helped me in the past.

I tend to tailor my lessons on an individual basis depending on what areas students need help with. This means spending up to an hour preparing for an online lesson where I'll find relevant material from a library of example questions, past-papers and mark schemes that have helped me in the past.

As for the structure of the session, I will usually start with a recap on what was covered previously, we'll then discuss the aims and objectives of the session. I tend to use worked examples as they're without a doubt the best way to learn how to tackle mathematical concepts. I'll go through the example, breaking down the problem and covering aspects in more detail as and when required. I'll then set some practice questions and see what aspects of the problem may be causing the student difficulty, this enables me to adjust the following practice question accordingly. We'll wrap up the session with a summary, a discussion on what's being covered in class and make a plan for the following session and in between if necessary.
