My name is Caroline Lang and I am a half-Austrian, half-American first-year student at the University of Exeter. I study English and Drama and am aspiring to become a teacher when I graduate. I have lived in Vienna all my life and was very excited to start a new chapter in England.
Having graduated from the Vienna International School, I have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate programme with 39 points. I have grown up bilingually (English and German) and speak both languages fluently. At school I have also learned French and Spanish and have a wide ranging knowledge in fields such as History, Biology and especially English Literature and Theatre.
When tutoring subjects that are especially essay-based (English, German, History, Theatre) I pay a lot of attention to the style of writing, structuring ideas, introductions and conclusions and know of many exercises that can help when forming an argument. In regards to English, I can also offer a lot of help with poetry (John Keats, John Donne, analyzing and understanding poems,...), creative writing, Shakespeare, critical analysis and compare and contrast essays. In History I specialize in the outbreaks of World War I and II as well as the interward period, Hitler and his rise to power, Mussolini and Stalin, the Spanish Civil War as well as Mao and the Chinese Revolution.
As a native speaker in German, I can help with a variety of work. I'm happy to proof-read any essays, help with grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary, as well as aid in the understading of various German novels, poems and plays. For students who are in need of help in Drama (especially IB Theatre), I have completed the course with 95% and can help with all necessary assessments, such as the IPP, PPP or the Research Investigation. Furthermore I would also be able to assist in any devising processes, look at technical aspects (lighting and sound) or generally help in the writing of a play or performance.
Regarding Biology, I can tutor areas including cells, genetics, ecology and evolution, the chemistry of life (transcription/translation,...) digestion and reproduction.
I have previous experience tutoring and have been part of a "buddy"-programme back at school, where I would meet up with students struggling in their subjects once a week. As someone who has had experience in Drama all her life, I do believe I am a very outgoing person, capable of communicating comfortably and well and able to bring across my ideas and suggestions in a constructive and understandable way.
