About me

Hello, I'm Clorrie and I'm a Third Year Modern Languages and Cultures (French and Spanish) student at Durham University. I have achieved a First Class in both the First and Second Year and I am currently on my Year Abroad. I have been teaching through MyTutor for two years for a variety of levels (GCSE, A-Level, IB, Open University and adult learners) and I have been awarded the Premium Tutor status to reflect my level of experience. Furthermore, I was selected to participate in a Teach First Insight Event in London where I attended networking meetings and teacher training sessions. I am extremely passionate about languages and travelling. Last summer, I completed a three-month long marketing internship in Barcelona and I am currently an English Language Assistant (ELA) in a college in Toulouse, France. I have also completed the prestigious Université BELC Hiver training course for language teachers organised by the CIEP (Centre International d'Études Pédagogiques). I completed modules in teaching languages for specific academic and professional purposes and quality management for language centres and languages departments in schools and universities (evaluating the quality of teaching, organising examinations and using resources).

About my sessions

I always conduct my lessons with the fact in mind that every student is different. Therefore, I dedicate a lot of time to preparing my own resources which are tailored to the individual student´s level and interests. I use a variety of real target language materials in order to encourage my students to practise their language skills outside of the classroom. However, I also include some traditional grammar exercises. I have also taught numerous exam boards for GCSE History and I always conduct the relevant reading beforehand to make sure that I am prepared to teach each topic. Although History is not my degree, as part of my culture modules I write a lot of History essays so therefore I am confident with teaching the GCSE specification to a high standard. Finally, my students have told me that they have found my mentoring sessions extremely useful and helping your child to develop general study skills such as time management and offering them extra support for job and university applications can help them to succeed in an evermore competitive environment.

I believe that communication with parents is vital and I therefore send a review to parents measuring their child´s progress after each lesson. I regularly send students and parents messages and I encourage everybody to contact me whenever they wish.

Clorrie is absolutely great! She makes the lesson fun, prepares for them well, and has good intuition of what you need to do. She is also encouraging about unlocking the doubts. I look forward to the next lesson.....

Thank you very much for the review, Olivia. It has been great fun speaking to you in French and discussing a lot of interesting cultural topics which could come up in any part of your exam. I feel very positive about our future lessons and that we are making good progress in time for your exams. Please message me should you need any extra help with anything.

Very pleased with the progress my daughter is making in Spanish. Clorrie provides very good feedback to the parent after each session. My daughter is pleased with her progress as well as the opportunity to practice speaking Spanish more than a classroom setting allows.

Clorrie's reply

Thank you for the review, Marlene, and I am very glad that your daughter is enjoying the lessons. I have been able to push her further so that she achieves the results that she deserves at GCSE. Often this is the case that the more talented students do not receive the help that they need at school to really excel and hit the top grades. Thank you for always reading and replying to my reviews and communicating with me so that we can help your daughter as much as possible.

The structure and planning in Clorrie's lessons are truly amazing. She creates powerpoints for each student and tailors it to your needs. When confused, she simply takes her time to clearly and kindly explain it to you. Would recommend again and again!

I really enjoyed our first tutorial together, Christabel. You are a very organised student and you engaged really well with the topic of social media. I can't wait to hear your ideas next lesson when we debate the advantages/ disadvantages of social media. If you ever need any help, please feel free to message me.

5 out of 5 best on on the web for this price, she is brilliant at making my Spanish lessons fun and exciting, i couldnt thank her more for what she has done so far. just now i 've had a lesson and we did charades, now dont start thinking "Oh you must mess around in the lesson". As that is completely untrue. Throughout the whole lesson i had to think of the word and put an action to it. this helps me in Spanish. Thats enough about me, lets talk about you. If you ever need a tutor for her subjects that she does you must go here. Never think lower price means worse teacher. Never

Hi Thomas, I really appreciate your review. It is great to hear that you are enjoying our lessons. For me, language learning is all about having fun, developing a love for the language and enjoying communicating with people. It is a pleasure to tutor somebody who shares my passion for the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. I am sure that you will achieve your dream of living in Spain. Keep up the hard work, you are making lots of progress!

Questions Clorrie has answered

When should I use the subjunctive in Spanish?

The subjunctive is not a tense, but rather a mood. We don't tend to use it a lot in English but in Spanish it is used to convey feelings of doubt or emotion. Here is a useful anagram to help you to remember when you should use the subjunctive: W- wishes E- emotions I- impersonal expressions R- recommendations D- doubt O- ójala In Spanish we use the present subjunctive when talking about actions in the present and future and the impersonal subjunctive when talking about actions in the past or when writing a si clause. It is important to especially remember that verbs such as 'pensar' normally do not trigger the subjunctive but when they are made negative e.g. 'no pienso que' they trigger the subjunctive because they introduce a sense of doubt. This is a common mistake among learners. Also try to learn some key examples of expressions which will trigger the subjunctive to use in your writing exercises in the exam or in speakings. Some easy set expressions include: sea como sea (be as it may be) and que yo sea (as far as I know).
