Hello, I'm Clorrie and I am a Fourth (Final) Year Student of Modern Languages and Cultures (French and Spanish) at Durham University. I have been teaching on MyTutor for two and a half years now and I have delivered over 500 lessons! I have also taken many history-based culture modules as part of my degree.

I have recently came back from my Year Abroad as part of my degree programme. I started off by completing a three-month internship in Marketing in Barcelona. I then worked for the British Council as an English Language Assistant in a secondary school in Toulouse, France. I was awarded a scholarship to participate in the BELC Winter University at the CIEP (Centre for Teaching Studies) in Paris ( a course for teaching French as a foreign language). I then completed my C1 (advanced fluency) certificates in both French and Spanish. I finished my Year Abroad in Mendoza, Argentina for a wine, food and travel magazine.

I dedicate my free time to my Exec role as College Rep for the Erasmus & Exchange Society. Likewise, I have been involved in the Scouts & Guides for many years and I was a Scout leader in France. I also write articles for Durham University's magazine for Modern Languages and Cultures.

About my sessions

The most important thing that I have learnt over the last three years is that every student is different. I tailor my lessons to the individual student's needs and interests with detailed planning of activities, assessments and specific learning outcomes. I have taught a range of ages as abilities from GCSE students to mature students studying for their degree with the Open University.

When I teach languages, I like to go beyond the traditional grammar books and use up-to-date sources in the target language including newspaper and magazine articles, music, videos, film clips and adverts. I find that this encourages my students to maintain some contact with the language everyday and this significantly improves their grades.

I am more than happy to answer the student's questions after the lesson via the MyTutor messenger. I am also committed to communicating with parents and letting them know how their child is getting on in terms of general feedback and assessment/ homework results from our classes.

Clorrie is absolutely great! She makes the lesson fun, prepares for them well, and has good intuition of what you need to do. She is also encouraging about unlocking the doubts. I look forward to the next lesson.....

Clorrie's reply

Thank you very much for the review, Olivia. It has been great fun speaking to you in French and discussing a lot of interesting cultural topics which could come up in any part of your exam. I feel very positive about our future lessons and that we are making good progress in time for your exams. Please message me should you need any extra help with anything.

Very pleased with the progress my daughter is making in Spanish. Clorrie provides very good feedback to the parent after each session. My daughter is pleased with her progress as well as the opportunity to practice speaking Spanish more than a classroom setting allows.

Clorrie's reply

Thank you for the review, Marlene, and I am very glad that your daughter is enjoying the lessons. I have been able to push her further so that she achieves the results that she deserves at GCSE. Often this is the case that the more talented students do not receive the help that they need at school to really excel and hit the top grades. Thank you for always reading and replying to my reviews and communicating with me so that we can help your daughter as much as possible.

The structure and planning in Clorrie's lessons are truly amazing. She creates powerpoints for each student and tailors it to your needs. When confused, she simply takes her time to clearly and kindly explain it to you. Would recommend again and again!

Clorrie's reply

I really enjoyed our first tutorial together, Christabel. You are a very organised student and you engaged really well with the topic of social media. I can't wait to hear your ideas next lesson when we debate the advantages/ disadvantages of social media. If you ever need any help, please feel free to message me.

It was suggested to my son that he should sit the lower level French GCSE, he prefers science and maths but he was determined that he could do better in French. We were extremely lucky to find and choose Clorrie, through her ongoing encouragement, dedication and preparation she gave him a love for a language that had previously been well hidden and a good pass at the higher level GCSE! I whole heartily recommend her and thank her for self believe that she installed in him in his French ability.
