About me

Hi! I'm Ella and I'm a first year Journalism, Media, and Sociology student at Cardiff University. I want to help students succeed by recognising their individual needs, as I believe that every student learns differently. Therefore I try to structure sessions around what each specific student struggles with. I aim to teach strategies to help students learn exam technique as well as what the examiner is looking for. About my sessions

I aim to structure sessions around each student's specific needs. To understand this I find that it is useful to ask students to explain a topic to you as they perceive it, and this will direct where focus needs to be. Before each session I ask the student to review their knowledge of a topic so they may attempt to explain it. Then w...

I aim to structure sessions around each student's specific needs. To understand this I find that it is useful to ask students to explain a topic to you as they perceive it, and this will direct where focus needs to be. For example if a student struggles to explain the context surrounding JB Priestly's 'An Inspector Calls', this is where the session should focus. Before each session I ask the student to review their knowledge of a topic so they may attempt to explain it. Then we work on this understanding. If by the end of the session they are able to more accurately explain this, they're understanding has improved. I also think it is important to encourage students to engage with a topic through relating it to their world. Jane Eyre can be very long and boring, and the language can be quite challenging- if you can relate this to a modern context, it becomes more interesting and memorable for the student.
