About me

I have just graduated from Oxford University with a First Class degree in History, and I have been tutoring regularly for several years. I have just graduated from Oxford University with a First Class degree in History, and I have been tutoring regularly for several years. I absolutely love my subject, and seek to communicate this enthusiasm to my students and help them to achieve their potential in an enjoyable yet effective way. I've been lucky enough to explore a diverse range of subjects during my degree—from the Norman Conquest to Victorian Britain, early modern witchcraft to 20th Century Europe, and the Troubles to recent Middle Eastern history—and wrote my thesis on the Kindertransport. I won the Peterhouse Cambridge Vellacott History Prize as a sixth former, and can also tutor English, Latin and Maths to GCSE level. Having gone through the gruelling Oxford admissions process not long ago, I would also love to help students with interview practice, writing the best possible personal statement, and preparing for the rather daunting HAT! I have worked with children of varying abilities and ages in the past, both face to face and on Skype, and so I can adapt my teaching style to the tutee's needs. My aim is to help them to consolidate and extend their knowledge, whilst ensuring that they are equipped to deal with the demands of their specific exam board. I also want to encourage students to consider different opinions and approaches to a question, which leads to a more stimulating and exciting learning environment. I am friendly and patient, and love helping students to realise their full potential.

About my sessions

I am a flexible tutor and will always tailor my sessions to focus on the student's particular goals. I am more than happy to set, review and mark work, as well as providing detailed feedback on progress. I hope that this will enable the student to hone their technique and knowledge. A typical History tutorial might involve the student suggesting a topic they want to go over—we would then examine key themes, facts and arguments, before progressing on to mind maps, quizzes and essays plans....

I am a flexible tutor and will always tailor my sessions to focus on the student's particular goals. I am more than happy to set, review and mark work, as well as providing detailed feedback on progress. I hope that this will enable the student to hone their technique and knowledge. A typical History tutorial might involve the student suggesting a topic they want to go over—we would then examine key themes, facts and arguments, before progressing on to mind maps, quizzes and essays plans. I feel that working on essay plans is a particularly effective way for the student to improve, as it helps them to develop convincing arguments, gain a sense of the debate, and build on their existing knowledge. Moreover, I always have the mark scheme of the particular exam board to hand, and focus on making sure that the student does not become unstuck by straying too far from its specifications. Ultimately, the way in which I approach a tutorial is dependent on the student's individual needs, although I will always strive to make learning enjoyable and exciting!
