Degree: French and Linguistics (Bachelors) - Oxford, St Anne's College University
Studying French and Linguistics at Oxford University and English Literature HL on the IB has given me an excellent knowledge of English language and literature, and of French. My past experience as a tutor means I can easily identify areas where progress is required and provide clear and encouraging feedback. I like to inspire enthusiasm in the students, whether about a foreign language or a piece of literature.
For French, I conduct lessons mostly in the target language and expect the student to try and do the same. I would encourage the student to immerse themselves in French culture: newspapers, magazines, music etc. I will balance the lessons between reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
For English, I will focus on the approach to studying literature with the aim of providing the student with excellent key skills that can be effectively applied when writing about any text. I will also ensure they understand the key themes and devices of texts they are studying.
Each student has different strengths hence I tailor my lessons to the specific needs of individuals aiming, through regular sessions, to reach a standard above and beyond the minimum required by the relevant exam board.

To begin with, you can vary your vocabulary and your sentence/paragraph structure. However in the end what makes a piece of writing interesting varies depending on its purpose. So you need to become familiar with different writing purposes and the techniques and devices that we use for each of these.see more
