About me

Hello! I'm a fourth year undergraduate and choral scholar at Merton College, Oxford studying French and Linguistics. Hello! I'm a fourth year undergraduate and choral scholar at Merton College, Oxford studying French and Linguistics. I have a passion for languages, both using them and understanding how they work, and I want to be able to help my students achieve their full potential, be that at GCSE, A Level, University Applications or beyond.

At Oxford, I have been heavily involved with the Oxbridge application process from within the university and have experience offering advice, mentoring and support, including with applications to the choral scholarship scheme, and I'm also willing to give advice to students who are still considering whether Oxbridge is the right place to them. I have experience teaching students in the French, Linguistics and Language Aptitude Test (LAT) parts of the MLAT, with the LAT being a necessary requirement for all students applying for ab initio languages.

For those students who come to me looking for advice with their language skills, it is my aim for them to come away from each of my sessions feeling like they've really got to grips with something they've been struggling with, be that grammar, translation, literature or any other aspect of French.

I have experience with the EPQ and am happy to help with any projects related to languages.

About my sessions

I mould my sessions to fit the learning requirements of my students. Some students learn best by rote learning but many do not, and I aim to find the teaching style which best suits the particular student. Usually, I set small amounts of homework to encourage students to think for themselves, whilst giving them all the help and support they need to do so.

Looking for help with French at school or college?

I have experience teaching students of all ages, and a proven track record of helping my students reach their full potential. I focus on the elements of the course that my students are having most difficulty with, but I also believe that the best way to achieve good grades in modern language exams is to learn the language, rather than just the exam, so I aim to give students the skills they need to truly get to grips with French.

Looking for help with university admissions?

For Oxbridge mentoring sessions, I offer support with personal statements and specific aptitude tests such as the MLAT, without losing sight of later stages such as interviews. I think it is important to see the application process not as a series of hurdles, but as one holistic process which will all be taken into account when a final decision is made.

Sebastian is great with his preparation and tuition. He has improved my son's french by a significant amount- he is patient when in lessons with my son. The recommended learning websites were also really useful to help him to improve. We would highly recommend Seb with no doubt.

Seb is excellent in providing his tuition and tailored to my son's needs in his French scholarship exam prep. He also provides useful and effective learning material online to support my son's after session self learning. I recommend Seb with no hesitation.

My son had several lessons with Sebastian to help with his GSCE French. Sebastian was very supportive and focused on providing a high level of support, tailored very well to my son’s specific requirements. I would not hesitate in recommending Sebastian.
