About me

Law has given me academic freedom, and deepened my interest and understanding, which has served for a perplexing and enriching time at university. Law has given me academic freedom, and deepened my interest and understanding, which has served for a perplexing and enriching time at university. I've been intrigued by the different branches of law; the option to study what I choose has been elevating as I feel I received a foundational education and was able to specialise from there. My experience of taking exams at school was positive. I never revised the night before an exam, as this would confuse my short-term memory with the many hours of preparation that had gone into months prior to the exam. Tutors are an ideal way to help prepare too - I used to visit my teachers on free periods to ask questions and get answers. Sixth form overall showed me the importance of working smartly with revision techniques. My experience in applying to university was fun - I enjoyed writing about my achievements and how these suggested that the course I wished to do was my perfect match. Confidence is a key skill to share.  At university, it's not just about the course. With law especially, there are many extracurricular activities to do. I am part of the Law Society. There is mooting and negotiating, which are role play court exercises. The annual ball and careers dinners are also very exciting. I am a member of the Yoga Society and attend Spanish lessons in my free time to improve my Spanish.

About my sessions

I can help my students improve by not just giving them the answers and standard ways to answer questions but a change in approach to exam questions and changing the way they think. Tools are more important than answers, especially where exam questions try to trick you. I structure my lessons by asking what the student thinks they need help with, then asking a practice question to see what level they are at. I then go into a method I would have used to answer the question and break this down, giving the student another question to try afterwards. Most importantly, I listen to the student to gauge when it is that problems occur and give them techniques to work through these. I measure progress by confidence and checking that the student isn't making the same mistakes after the lesson. Learning is encouraged by listening and readapting these approaches accordingly. Learning techniques for English and Law are rethinking structure. Often examiners are looking for a clear structure that suggests the student has put a sophisticated answer forward. More often than not the ideas are there and it is the presentation that lets them down. Grammatical subjects like English and Spanish require practice, and there are many techniques for vocabulary that I can share. Rethinking many of these issues helped me to successfully prepare for my school exams.
