About me

Hi there! I am a Chemistry student at the University of Bristol and have a love for teaching and inspiring others. I chose Chemistry for one reason: to ultimately help others. I'm passionate about using my degree in further research into, particularly, how we can improve our environment and avoid the catastrophic consequences of not doing so.

I'm passionate about using my degree in further research into, particularly, how we can improve our environment and avoid the catastrophic consequences of not doing so.

And one day, I'd like to be a teacher, to pass on my expertise in what I know and ensure future generations can be as passionate as I am about the subject I love. But I'd like to get started now, by tutoring you!

In my Sixth Form years I was asked to tutor some GCSE Chemistry students and it was hugely satisfying to observe the students boost their own confidence and motivation, whilst grasping a firm understanding of unfamiliar topics.

Learning is not just knowing something: it's understanding it. I want to help my students improve by developing a deep understanding whilst genuinely enjoying the subject.

About my sessions

To learn something, we need to do more than just read some notes. In my lessons, I will use various techniques, which I have found very useful, to help you gain a firm understanding of a topic.

For each and every lesson, I will use the following procedure:

Planning

I will endeavour to prepare resources and a lesson structure for each session, whether that means finding practice questions to go through and discuss, refreshing my knowledge so I can explain concepts better or even finding useful videos for students to watch after my lesson.

Delivering

The best way to learn, I have found, is through visualisation. Drawing diagrams, for example, really helps students to fully grasp the idea at hand. I will explain new and existing concepts, and discuss these at a level of detail appropriate to the student, starting with a level they are comfortable with, to gain self-confidence.

Reflection

In my time following the session, I will answer any follow-up questions you have, and also ask myself what I can do to improve the lesson, exploring different techniques so I know what works best for the individual student.

Analysis

Over time, I will track your progress, keeping a note of which topics are understood, and which need a further look at. I will base this on questions that I will ask in lessons, and how I feel the student is coping with the learning.
