About me

I am a first year medical student at Imperial College London, and I'm originally from an area near Liverpool. I chose to study medicine as I'm extremely passionate about Biology, and the anatomy of the human body. I also love interacting with different people from all different walks of life, and I wanted to ultimately pursue a career involved in helping people! Additionally, Maths and Chemistry are both subjects I find interesting, hence why I took them for my A Levels.

One of my main hobbies is swimming (which I do for the Imperial team), which I spend a lot of my free time doing as I find it an extremely good stress reliever and the social aspect of it is great too! From my previous experience of working as a swimming instructor, I realise I enjoy teaching and watching people improve, I find it very rewarding. Furthermore I feel I have developed skills which have made me a better teacher, for example how best to offer constructive criticism to ensure progression.

For me, A Levels and even GCSEs don't seem like a long time ago, and I know all too well how stressful exams can be! As a tutor, I can offer advice on exam technique, how to relax on exam day, and most importantly explain topics and concepts that are most difficult.

About my sessions

I feel it is best to tailor my lessons to fit each individual students' needs. Each lesson will be based on one or two concepts that the student finds challenging: I will first teach the topic, check the student has understood it properly, and consolidate this with past paper exam questions. In my lessons I will place emphasis on exam question practice, as from my experience of exams, often students know the topic well but do not pick up all of the marks on the exam questions as they lack...

I feel it is best to tailor my lessons to fit each individual students' needs. Each lesson will be based on one or two concepts that the student finds challenging: I will first teach the topic, check the student has understood it properly, and consolidate this with past paper exam questions. In my lessons I will place emphasis on exam question practice, as from my experience of exams, often students know the topic well but do not pick up all of the marks on the exam questions as they lack exam technique. During my lessons I will always use the subject specification as reference, as this includes all of the key information and topics that students need to know for exams. I can also send students links for more exam questions and learning resources that I found useful for reading and practice between tutor lessons.

Making lessons fun and interactive will be a priority for me, I think often YouTube video explanations and animations can be an extremely effective way for students to learn. However, I appreciate that not all students learn in the same way, so if other methods of teaching and learning work better for certain students, I can tailor my lessons accordingly.
