Once I finish my PhD, I intend to continue in academia and become a university lecturer and tutor. My experience as an English Literature graduate has given me the skills needed to be clear and concise. English is not my first language, and so I understand the struggle to become confident in analysing and studying literature, but I am also proof that it is possible to excel and exceed expectations through hard work and a positive attitude. I offer my skills as a PhD candidate to help my students get to go into their exams and go to university with confidence in their literary critical skills.

About my sessions

To prepare for each tutorial, I will set a piece of reading for the student to read over before the lesson so they will be aware of what we will cover during the tutorial. I will then structure my tutorials around some close reading of the text before going onto some discussion so the student will be given an opportunity to voice their opinion and are challenged to bring their own ideas to the session. After, I will provide a series of questions based on the text to give them an opportunity to practice writing answers. I will help students achieve their goals by asking them to set one or two key goals they wish to achieve during that certain session, and we will review how far we have progressed and reevaluate whether to increase the goals or how to better our progress. This will also give students a more tangible way of measuring their progress as well as encouraging positive self-evaluation. To encourage learning, it is important to continuously reinforce positive self-evaluation, provide challenges to help students become motivated, as well as helping them create realistic goals so that there is a sense of achievement.

An exceptional tutor. First session together went very well. She managed to figure out what I needed to work on and addressed those areas. I would highly recommend.

I really found the session helpful and productive, as we went over an essay I wrote for homework, which allowed me to better the clarity of my work. We also went over analysis for a book I am studying at the moment.

Really helpful- planned tutorials well, made goals and objectives to complete and offered a lot of guidance on exam technique and detailed analysis when approaching unseen extracts and the exam questions.
