About me

Having worked my way through GCSE and A Level at school and I am now doing a degree in Architecture at the University of Edinburgh. It has been my passion of both science and the arts that has drawn me to this field of study. During my time at school I tutored GCSE students while doing my own A levels, which was an experience I really enjoyed doing and I was able to build the confidence of students academically as well as being able to improve their understanding of a subject. I have also been a leader for a Girl Guiding group for several years, which is something I find very gratifying and it has given me a large amount of experience interacting with adolescents between the ages of 10 and 15. The experience I have had with students both as a pupil myself or as a leading figure has been that having a tutor not only gives you help academically with your understanding of a concept, but it also allows you to focus your learning where its important. I have sat the exams that I tutor, and therefore I will be able to help build up a student’s academic confidence and help them to revise effectively, as learning can seem very overwhelming. My love for the academic subject’s I tutor gives me an enthusiastic teaching method but I also think it’s very important for the pupil to feel comfortable with making mistakes and asking questions, so I teach with a friendly and patient manner, without the intimidation of the classroom.

About my sessions

Tutoring is a highly subjective and tailor made experience. For tuition of a specific subject it’s important that the students themselves feel comfortable to ask questions and talk about their current knowledge of a topic. Once a topic has been decided between me and my student we will start by discussing what the student does and doesn’t understand. Then I will explain any concepts that have been misunderstood or need clarification. This can be followed up by working through some example que...

This can be followed up by working through some example questions where appropriate. I will finish by giving the student a chance to talk through their new understanding of theories, which will improve their confidence and allow them to formulate their own way of remembering a certain topic. This use of dialogue can help students remember a topic better and it gives them pride in their own learning, as appose to just listening to information like they would in the classroom. This is backed up by doing practice questions or problems, going through them one to one and step by step, which will improve the students understanding of the assessments they will face in the topic (these are materials I will acquire before the session).
