About me

I am a 20-year-old law student in my third year at the University of Edinburgh. I love the diversity of my law modules which range from criminal law to contract law, and intellectual property law to legal philosophy, because I get to solve fun legal challenges in all sorts of situations.

I am a 20-year-old law student in my third year at the University of Edinburgh. I love the diversity of my law modules which range from criminal law to contract law, and intellectual property law to legal philosophy, because I get to solve fun legal challenges in all sorts of situations.

I am familiar with sitting exams and have a track record of success with straight As in my National 5s (GCSE/AS level equivalent) and my Highers (A level equivalent). My experience of studying for exams in an effective way has given me skills that I use in studying law, and which will continue to be useful use later on in my career.

Outside of uni, I am a copy editor for the Edinburgh Student Law Review, which means that I check spelling, grammar and writing style in the essays which are being considered for a legal magazine. I am also a participant in the mooting society, which is a mixture of acting as a lawyer in an imaginary trial and debating. Recently, I started boxing with the university society as a fun stress-buster and fitness boost. Overall, though, my favourite thing to do in my spare time is to spend time with my rescue dogs and to (try to) teach them tricks.

About my sessions

Understanding exam material can be difficult and, sometimes, having trouble with one part of a subject can have knock-on effects on understanding other parts. I am patient, understanding and optimistic, which I ensure comes across to students, so that they feel they are supported in tackling areas that they find tricky. I firmly believe that every student can do well if they have the guidance and educational support necessary to become confident with the material.

One thing...

One thing I have found through my education is that sometimes you need to use a different approach for each exam. Finding the best approach for you to answer questions in the way the markers are looking for is something that I can help with. Since I have experience sitting exams in these subjects, I can advise on helpful tips that can make a big difference in studying effectively.

Once reaching a certain stage, I think past papers are the best way for a student to measure their progress. Apart from the actual result, it is equally important to go through each question and engage the student in active discussion about the differences and similarities between the answer they wrote down and the answer provided by the markers. This will help pinpoint whether they need to continue to work on understanding the material or if it is a structural error that can be immediately changed.
