About me

Hi! I'm Ellen and I'm currently studying for my final year of my undergraduate degree in History at the University of York. I'm achieving a first, and in September I will be starting a masters in the department of politics. Hi! I'm Ellen and I'm currently studying for my final year of my undergraduate degree in History at the University of York. I'm achieving a first, and in September I will be starting a masters in the department of politics. Despite my strong university grades, I understand the difficulty of A-levels, and more importantly, exams. A single exam has meant I have missed whole grades before. I have learnt the hard way the importance of consistently strong exam preparation! Alternatively, I also really value (and encourage) looking after your mental health surrounding exams.

One of the main reasons I decided to study history was due to the many disciplines it covers. I study politics, ideology, law, philosophy, and the world of heritage and museums - all within one degree. This has helped me to build skills and enabled me to be confident in teaching multiple disciplines.

My degree and A-levels have both given me a lot of experience with essay-writing. Knowing how to put across what you want to say is just as important as what you are saying! I am the communications officer for a society at university, and the blog-coordinator for another; I really understand the importance of communication. Through my lessons, I hope to share my enthusiasm for the subjects which I myself, have grown to love studying!

About my sessions

I am happy to cover content, revision, exam technique and anything else! MyTutor should be something catered to you, and what you need. My usual lessons run by looking at exam questions and planning them. This way we can detect any gaps in knowledge and it supplies my students with some essay plans to turn into essays when revising. I am happy to look at essays for no charge prior to the lesson and suggest what work needs doing! I also send online resources, such as video's, websites and...

I also send online resources, such as video's, websites and any of my own notes that I have.

Usually in my lessons I also suggest ways of revising to really remember the key issues! I also separate my lessons into piecemeal chunks that are easier to understand, whilst also giving a structure to revise to.

Once you book a free meeting, we can discuss the course of the lessons: how many you want; the structure of them; the content of them; and if you want me to set any homework.

My son has had three history lessons with Ellen and he has significantly improved his essay writing skills in less than two weeks. I can fully recommend her as a tutor.
