About me

Mathematics has often been described as a "Marmite" subject; you either love it or you hate it. Whether that's true or not, it is evident that many people believe mathematics is simply "not their cup of tea". Marmite and tea aside, I am confident that every individual has the potential to improve in this subject area.

Since mathematical ideas originate in the real world, my approach is to, as far as is possible, contextualise the problems that tutees face. I am also not one for trying to fit square pegs into round holes. Hence, by using a variety of methods that engage visual, audible and kinaesthetic learners, I aim to communicate the subject in a language the tutee understands.

I have enjoyed experience in secondary schools both voluntarily as a Teaching Assistant and as part of my ‘Communicating Mathematics’ degree module at the University of Leicester. Since embarking on my postgraduate degree at Cardiff University in September 2014 I have also tutored privately and as part of Cardiff University’s Maths Support Service.
