About me

I am studying Physics and Mathematics at the University of St Andrews, and will be beginning my final year in September 2019. I have been offering physics and maths tuition via MyTutor since August 2017, with several recurring students who I have supported through an entire school year. I also participated in my school’s peer mentoring programme for two years, and I am keen to continue sharing my understanding with new students.

I have a strong academic record at GCSE and A-level, and I am happy to offer my support to students of any ability. Whether you need help with weekly homework, are having difficulty with a particular concept, or just want to refresh your skills before exams, I’m confident that I have been in a similar position before and would be able to help you through it. In addition to paid lesson time, I am normally available to answer brief questions from my students in between scheduled sessions.

I will be able to take more students than normal over the summer, so if your mocks haven’t quite gone to plan or you feel like you’re behind with physics or maths then I’m happy to help.

For prospective students, the only thing I would expect is that you are eager to learn, and I will always endeavour put as much effort into the tutorial as you do. I will aim to help you identify your own limitations, and assist you in overcoming them based on my previous experience with GCSE and A-level problems. The most essential skill in maths and physics is the ability to approach unfamiliar problems by drawing on existing knowledge and applying it to new situations. When seeking help with specific problems, I will encourage you to take the time to fully understand the methods and reasoning used, rather than just routinely learning the answer to each example. Thinking in this way will help you to spot links between different areas of your course, improving your overall understanding, and making you an adaptable physicist or mathematician capable of solving a wide range of more complex problems.
