About me

I'm Sophie and I'm in my first year of studying Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Sociology at Trinity College Dublin. I love my degree and, having studied politics at A Level, have found it very rewarding to continue on studying similar subjects to those I did in school. I'm Sophie and I'm in my first year of studying Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Sociology at Trinity College Dublin. I love my degree and, having studied politics at A Level, have found it very rewarding to continue on studying similar subjects to those I did in school. I have worked with Girl Guiding UK for several years, meaning I have developed communication and empathy skills. I personally benefited from tutoring during my own A Levels; teachers are under significant stress and time pressure during A Level teaching, and one-on-one tutoring in order to develop understanding can be vital. I hope to harness my understanding of the A Level system (ie. marking schemes, possible exam questions, and general preparatory work) as well as a personal understanding of the pupil's learning process to help anyone reach their full potential.

About my sessions

For A Level students, I plan to provide the foundations for intricate study plans and revision lists. Often the hardest thing to do when studying for A Levels is start. I will make outlines for essay plans which I will periodically ask the student to fill out, depending on their specific needs. Often with A Level, there is a specific topic area in which a pupil struggles. I will outline the key content with which the individual is having difficulties and we will work through it using mind map...

I will outline the key content with which the individual is having difficulties and we will work through it using mind maps, flashcards, and among other things simple discussion, identifying strong and weak areas as we go along.

I will ask pupils to complete specific sets of notes, essay plans, or readings between classes which we will review at the beginning of each lesson. The key to A Level study is consistent reviewing of work.

With regards to younger pupils (ie. KS3, 11-Plus, and GCSE) I aim to create engaging and fun ways to learn, with the aim of expanding knowledge of both the subject and themselves; I want to provide resources which will help students learn how they study best. We will work to identify methods of learning (eg. mind maps, podcasts, discussion, and flashcards) that work best for the individual without simply recreating a lesson in a classroom. Engagement is so important to younger pupils, and I hope that through online tutoring they feel less like a number in a class and begin to value education.
