About me

Hi there! I’m Annabelle, and I’m a fourth-year languages student at the University of Warwick. I've recently returned from living in France for 7 months so I’m really excited to help you on your journey in improving your understanding of the French language, which I have loved learning for many years!

I also received tutoring during my time as a GCSE and A-level student so I am really passionate about helping you in the same way that I was.

When I came to university, I decided to set myself the challenge of learning both Spanish and German from beginners’ level, in addition to studying French. Picking up these languages from scratch has reminded me of all of the challenges of learning a language and I believe my experience will prove invaluable in helping you overcome similar obstacles.

Whether you have questions about vocab, grammar or even just general queries about your exams, please do get in touch – I look forward to meeting you! :)

About my sessions

I believe that it’s important to adapt sessions to the needs of each individual student.

Before we start, we can discuss what you’d like to get out of the sessions and I will ask you to bring specific issues for us to go through.

Repetition is key! I think it is really important to re-visit issues covered in order to identify if/how much progress has been made.

I will aim to shape the sessions around your individual wants and needs, so do get in touch and we can talk a bit more about how you’d like this to work!

Annabelle has helped me improve my French very quickly, effectively teaching me tenses and grammar that I have had trouble with in the past. She is also very friendly and helpful which makes for an easygoing lesson time. She has boosted my confidence in my French and is an extremely good tutor.

Questions Annabelle has answered

How do you form the present subjunctive?

When dealing with regular verbs, the present subjunctive is formed by 1) taking the third person plural (ils/elles) form of the verb in the present tense 2) removing the -ent ending 3) adding the appropriate subjunctive endings. The subjunctive endings are: -e, -es, -e, -ions, -iez, -ent. For example, the verb parler (to speak) conjugates as parlent in the 'ils' form of the present tense. So we take this conjugation, remove the -ent, and add the subjunctive endings, which gives us: je parle, tu parles, il parle, nous parlions, vous parliez, ils parlent. As always, there are irregular verbs in the subjunctive. Some are more irregular than others, however it is fairly easy to notice patterns in the conjugations which can be very useful when learning and memorising them. When dealing with regular verbs, the present subjunctive is formed by 1) taking the third person plural (ils/elles) form of the verb in the present tense 2) removing the -ent ending 3) adding the appropriate subjunctive endings.
