I have 2 years of experience tutoring French, Spanish, and English Literature online, at GCSE and A Level, as well as assisting with personal statements and Oxbridge interview preparation. I also spent a year abroad teaching English at a university in Colombia through the British Council. I taught staff and students of all ages, backgrounds and interests.

Taking exams and applying for university can be stressful, and there is nothing better than lots of practice. This means you can clarify difficult points about the subject and gain confidence, and learn how to structure arguments clearly.

I love languages because they offer you the chance to interact with other groups of people from all over the world. You can read books, watch films and listen to music, and chat with people in other countries in a more in-depth way.

I am friendly and outgoing, and I am always keen to meet and interact with new people. Aside from studying and learning languages, I love travelling, scuba-diving, skydiving and running.

About my sessions

I am a firm believer that variety is really important to make sure you become confident in all sides of the language while having fun. Speaking and listening skills are important, but not if you don't have the grammar knowledge to back it up, and reading the language is really important for everything from restaurant menues to newspapers.

I plan classes using a range of resources, from exam papers to magazine articles....

I plan classes using a range of resources, from exam papers to magazine articles. This ensures that you know the exam format, while looking at more exciting material.

I am really flexible and will always go out of my way to adapt the classes to the needs and interests of the students, and I genuinely really enjoy sharing my love of languages and literature.

I can pass on my techniques and experience preparing for coursework and exams, writing a personal statement and having university interviews, or analysing and discussing literature.

Laurence is a great tutor and I thank God for the day I chose him to tutor my son for his Spanish GCSE's. My son was failing Spanish and he was predicted as a cause for concern. After he failed his mocks. Within 4 months Laurence was able to get through my son's fear of languages and raised him up to a B grade. In fact my sons marks were only 10 marks away from an A grade. So get him now before it's too late

Laurence tutored my son for 3 months in the run up to GCSE Spanish in 2018. Laurence immediately established a strong rapport with my son through his relaxed and reassuring manner. Laurence adapted his tutoring to support my son’s dyslexia and enabled him to learn in an environment that was conducive to consolidating his existing knowledge but also provided strategies for dealing with the stress of exams. He was very thorough particularly with grammar and helped enormously with both the written and oral exams. My son went on to gain an excellent result in his GCSE and we have now engaged Laurence for tutoring through A level. We fully endorse Laurence as a tutor.
