About me

Hi, my name's Isabella and I've recently finished my degree in Cancer Biology & Immunology at Bristol University. I've had experience in tutoring chemistry & biology in the past, and found it very enjoyable and rewarding. I try to make sessions engaging and interesting, as well as interactive so you won't get bored! I understand how mind-boggling science can be at times, so I try my best to explain concepts as clearly as possible, and as many times as is needed! As well as biology and chemistry, I am half Brazilian and speak fluent portuguese, so can also tutor portuguese. Describe why DNA replication is semi-conservative

DNA replication involves the unwinding of double strand DNA by the enzyme helicase, resulting in two single DNA strands which can be used as templates for replication. DNA polymerase can then catalyse replication by binding free nucleotides to these template strands via complimentary base pairing. It is called 'semi-conservative' as both of the produced DNA molecules will contain 1 new strand and 1 old, 'template' strand. (i.e. 1 old DNA strand is 'conserved' in each)
