About me

Hi! I am a fourth-year student studying Physics (the best subject) at the University of Warwick. I love learning, sharing knowledge and insight to help other people achieve and get to where they want to be in life. I am chatty and enthusiastic, and have a passion for both physics and maths (at University they are basically the same thing). At their core, the subjects are methodical and logical. I love learning, sharing knowledge and insight to help other people achieve and get to where they want to be in life. I am chatty and enthusiastic, and have a passion for both physics and maths (at University they are basically the same thing). At their core, the subjects are methodical and logical. My job is to help strip back the apparent complex exterior so my student can understand this methodical nature. With this problem-solving technique, difficult and applied problems become much easier.

Now a little bit about me. I play several sports, including badminton, hockey and pool. I am also a keen musician and play four different instruments, reaching grade 8 in violin and grade 6 in piano. Throughout these hobbies and my school career, I have had a wide array of teachers, some exceptional, some less so. Drawing upon this taught me what makes a good teacher. With this and my previous tutoring experience (both as the student and the tutor) it puts me in place to be the best tutor I can be.

About my sessions

The most important person in my sessions is the student. They will cover areas the student wishes to cover, or is struggling on. Normally, before each session at least two areas will be chosen to cover. Two ensures no time is wasted if we finish an area quickly whilst also allowing the whole session to be spent on one area if required. If they have no preference, I will pick something they, my peers or I often struggled with. This structure allows me to prepare properly and produce the best l...

This structure allows me to prepare properly and produce the best lesson possible. I must stress, however, that this structure is only general. As I am currently studying the subject I can be very flexible. So, if the student comes to me with an issue they wish to address promptly, I will happily do so.

From the experiences of myself and others, the best way to learn is through a) repeating things to reinforce your memory and b) teaching other people as you must have a thorough understanding of the subject to explain it fully. To encompass these into my sessions each one starts with a quick recap of the last, where the student explains to me the area covered last session and I ask probing questions to check their understanding. In the main body of the session we focus on their chosen area, explained in a way which suits them best (as every student learns differently) and with the aid of diagrams, graphs and worked examples.
