About me

For A level, my aim is to find an area which my students can really relate to for the subjects I teach and develop this alongside the syllabus. This is important because the exam boards can focus on narrow subjects and this can leave students unsure why they are studying a subject they may otherwise love. I also feel it is important to focus on exam questions so that students know exactly what they are going to face and how a large mass of information can be made considerably more manageable....

For university, I've just finished a PhD in Psychology which looked at sleep difficulties in those at risk for hallucinations and delusions. As a result I'm happy to take on university students who require help with their writing or who are struggling with statistics. At Manchester I run a writing clinic for undergraduate, postgraduates and medics who need help with essays, lab-reports, and deciding on dissertation questions. I am more than happy to help with these areas in tutorials.

About my sessions

For A level, I start by working with the student to identify their weak areas and target this through collaborative sessions. We go through topics together on screen and I am keen to keep asking questions to ensure understanding. Homework is set at the end of every session and we go through this together at the start of every session. As it gets closer to the exam season I will include more exam style questions and create a revision plan with students to ensure everything is tackled timely an...

Homework is set at the end of every session and we go through this together at the start of every session. As it gets closer to the exam season I will include more exam style questions and create a revision plan with students to ensure everything is tackled timely and comfortably.

For university level, I ask that students provide me with the area they're struggling with (e.g. a lab report) before the session and I will go through this in the session. For students who require multiple sessions I am happy to set out a plan at the start to ensure the aims of the student are met and, in the case of improving writing, realistic goals we can achieve in that time. I'm a nerd for my subject so I'll keen on making the sessions as interesting as possible even if we're focusing on fairly dry areas.
