About me

This summer, I graduated from The Queen's College, Oxford, in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. I believe that studying these disciplines provides students with the evaluative and analytic tools needed to navigate a complex and chaotic world with confidence. It's clear to me that studying these subjects has had a positive effect on my own life, and I want other students to have a similarly enriching experience. I think both economics and philosophy have great practical relevance for our lives and I'll try to show students the ways in which this is so.

About my sessions

These subjects, though enjoyable, are difficult to study. Moreover, they are difficult in their own particular ways, so they merit their own learning approaches.

These subjects, though enjoyable, are difficult to study. Moreover, they are difficult in their own particular ways, so they merit their own learning approaches.

In philosophy, I find that students at GCSE or A-level often haven't had the opportunity to have a philosophical discussion about the questions at hand. The result of this is that students haven't yet fully articulated their thoughts on the issues and arrived at a position through a reasoned, sound argument. With this in mind, the tutorials will aim to provide such an opportunity. If a student wants to discuss a particular topic, then such a discussion will be the focus. If the student wants to discuss some particular argument or position, then we will discuss that point in particular, comparing and contrasting it with other relevant positions. Equally, we can discuss and practice essay structure or exam technique.

In economics, we'll generally give a rigorous treatment of the theory, and then look at some real-life applications of that theory. However, I am of course open to any preferences that the student has over what shape the session should take.

I look forward to meeting you.

Went through TSA corrections with me and broke each question down into simple, time effective + accurate steps. He ensures that you understand how to get to the answer, and teaches you what exam techniques to use. Overall a very good and encouraging tutor :)

My first time reading past TSA papers with someone else, and Joe was extremely helpful in guiding me on how to approach various question types. He not only provided step-by-step strategies but also provided a full explanation on why the answer should be an answer and while other choices cannot be the answer. Will continue to have daily sessions with Joe until the real exam!
