About me

I’m in my second year of university studying history in Birmingham. History has always been one of my favourite subjects, and I especially love the way in which it allows us to broaden our view of the world and understand the lives of people very different from ourselves. I am also open to tutoring English GCSE students. For History, I specialise in USA 1920s-1980s, Cold War, WW1 and WW2, Tudors and Russia 1855-1955, but if you need help with other topics please message me.

In school and college I worried about exams, particularly because I struggled with timing. However, I learnt some very useful ways to manage my time effectively in exams which is still useful to me today.

During my time at school and sixth form, I found it particularly helpful to use visual aids to remember important historical dates, but everyone learns differently so I will structure our tutor sessions around your learning style and your preferences. The structure of our sessions will be dependent on your needs - if there are particular issues that week, for example you have an essay or exam coming up that you want help with, we will focus on that. Generally though, I will help you work through essay techniques and tips, revision and tips for remembering important information.

About my sessions

During both my GCSEs and A-Levels, I learnt that practice really does make perfect, and I got into the habit of practising my writing skills and essay time management as much as I could which was extremely useful and allowed me to get the grades I needed. In terms of remembering information, I created large sets of flash cards divided into key themes which I would try to learn and test myself on.

As scary as exams and essays can seem, they can be broken down into manageable chunks and with my guidance, we will work through any concerns you have and make sure that you feel confident in your abilities. I also believe that it is extremely important to enjoy learning as much as possible, which might sound ridiculous but it can really make a difference in how much you remember if you start to enjoy yourself more whilst learning, and I will therefore ensure my tutor sessions are engaging and interesting.
