I am a second year physics student and teaching & outreach ambassador at the University of Bath. The applicability of my subject to the real world excites me and I find it fascinating to delve into the esoteric nature of some of the stereotypical fields. My application to university and A Level exams were somewhat complicated by a chronic health condition which resulted in my deferral for a year, however as a member of societies such as swimming, music and the physics departmental society I am now well connected within the university community. I have also made connections through the Gold Scholarship Programme and as a gold scholar I regularly undertake volunteering opportunities and attend training sessions and networking events.

As a student at my integrated sixth form college, I established a mentoring scheme for GCSE and A Level science students in order to assist them with content they were struggling with throughout the year and in the lead up to exam season. This meant that target students each had a peer mentor with whom they met on a regular basis and could go to for support outside of lesson time. Given this, I have experience in helping tutees improve and focusing on weak areas they may not be so confident in. Conversely, the scheme I ran also aimed to help high-achieving students make the extra step needed to achieve the very highest grades and so this is also something I am very passionate about.

From experience, having primarily understood the content of a course, I have found past exam papers to to be the best way of consolidating this knowledge. Hence, I would structure sessions by covering material which the student may not be so confident on and then progress to practice questions with varying levels of difficulty before completing a review and answering any other questions the student may still have. I will help students achieve their goals by having an open dialogue, assessing what it is they wish to achieve and then executing a plan of action. Progress will be measured against the exam board specification and verbally assessed by the students' own confidence. Confidence in one's own ability to understand a method and apply it to new situations is key and so this is something that I would really like to focus on. Effective learning comes from intrinsic sources and is most effective when the outcome results in a sense of satisfaction.

I was able to work through problems with Giovanni. He helped me resolve the questions where I had difficulties with. And guided me through the themes I should study on my own. The lesson was efficient and we were able to go through a large variety of subjects.
