Hi there! I'm Charlotte, I have recently completed a Masters degree studying conservation and biodiversity at the University of Exeter and now work as an Assistant Farm Conservation Adviser for a charity called the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group. I completed my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences with Study Abroad in 2015, and have also worked for a charity called the Mammal Society as their Information and Communications officer. In my spare time I ride and compete my horse, scuba dive and explore the outdoors.

I studied biology throughout my A levels, applying to top universities including Oxford, so I remember having to work out how to learn the right content and then apply it to questions to get the best result I could. I have lots of experience in communicating science to different audiences through my degree and through my job at the Mammal Society. I also have experience teaching primary school children to read, assisting disabled adults to ride horses with the Riding for the Disabled Association, and teaching people to scuba dive in swimming pools.

Throughout the many hours of exams and hard work while I have been studying biology, the subject has never failed to make me sit back and think "Wow, that's really interesting!" and this is something that has continued through to my job today. I hope to bring that across to my students, as I know from experience that it is much easier to learn something that you find interesting.

About my sessions

I tailor the structure and methods used in tutorials to each individual student. Once we have worked out which areas of biology and which syllabus need to be covered, I break the subject matter down into small chunks for us to work on, to compliment what the student will be learning in school or college. I also take into account individual learning styles (whether students remember things better if they write them down, or hear them, or need a funny rhyme or acronym), and have experience with...

I tailor the structure and methods used in tutorials to each individual student. Once we have worked out which areas of biology and which syllabus need to be covered, I break the subject matter down into small chunks for us to work on, to compliment what the student will be learning in school or college. I also take into account individual learning styles (whether students remember things better if they write them down, or hear them, or need a funny rhyme or acronym), and have experience with students with dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD, for whom one to one lessons communicated in a flexible and tailored fashion are invaluable.

I provide a broad understanding of biology, with a focus on learning the key points and case studies needed for exams, supplementing each session with a few relevant past exam questions, with no pressure to get them right first time! I also provide step by step advice on how to tackle each type of question found in exam papers. By using these and the interactive lesson space provided by MyTutor to annotate diagrams, outline equations etc, I ensure that students learn in a fun, interesting and, above all, memorable way. I love what I study, and hope that my positive, cheerful approach will carry that across to my students.

Our daughter has been seeing Charlotte regularly for help in Biology since the summer. We have seen improvement in leaps and bounds and the school has noted it as well. Charlotte is patient and encouraging in her manner, and explains complicated concepts in a way our daughter can understand. We will definitely continue to work with her.
