About me

Hi there! I am Lauryn and I am currently studying Biomedicine (MSci) at Lancaster University. I am really passionate about all things biomed, especially cancer research and immunology. I would love to help other students through the new A-Levels so that they can achieve their goals like I have mine, as these new courses are becoming increasingly more difficult each year. If i made it, so can you!

I would love to help other students through the new A-Levels so that they can achieve their goals like I have mine, as these new courses are becoming increasingly more difficult each year. If i made it, so can you!

Personally, I found exams difficult to start with as I made lots of silly mistakes due to me caving under exam pressure. I would like to share with other students how I overcame the pressure and went on to getting into University.

With regards to my teaching approach, once meeting any tutee I will begin by asking what kind of teaching methods they feel are best for them. I will then be able to cater my lessons to each individual tutee to ensure they get the best improvements in their subjects! I find providing anecdotes to different parts of the subjects helps with a person's understanding as they can relate it to an every day scenario. Another great technique is going over the notes I made from a lesson by editing and writing them on record cards. I would then read them aloud to myself in the bath, in the car, just before bed, anywhere and it would help to make it stick in my brain. The first lesson we can have a discussion of what parts of the subject need to be looked at the most to enhance the learning experience.

About my sessions

When I prepare for tutorials I look at the minute details in the student's specification so that I can teach and test them on areas that distinguish between the A's and the A*'s. I find many previous exam questions that I will use as examples to teach the material as well as get the student to work through one on their own, this will help them gain more confidence in themselves. I plan to start the tutorials with a mini test of what we did last lesson and feedback to the tutee on...

I plan to start the tutorials with a mini test of what we did last lesson and feedback to the tutee on how they could better their answers to gain as many marks as possible! The questions in the test will cover the areas that the student particularly struggled with so that I can be certain we can move on to the next topic. The main bulk of the session will be teaching/going over content that will have been set in a previous session. This will allow the tutee to read up on the topic beforehand, if they so wish. I found that more tests and practice papers that I did the easier the exam became as I didn't feel the exam pressure being as overwhelming. In addition, with many tests done you can go in feeling confident that you couldn't have done any more and that you have tried your best. I am always available via messaging if students have any questions they need answering or last minute support for an exam!

Lauryn has been very helpful in reinforcing the A-Level work I have been doing in my Chemistry classes. She's always been very well prepared for sessions with really useful material which she explained to me very well. She's been lovely to work with. (Bianca - ALevel student)
