About me

I study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southampton, because I love maths, science and technology.

I love teaching and passing on my passion for maths and science which can be scary subjects, but with proper teaching I think everyone can find an appreciation for them. I believe that there is no bad maths/science student, only inadequate teachers. I am very patient and try to tailor sessions to each student’s personal learning style.

I love teaching and passing on my passion for maths and science which can be scary subjects, but with proper teaching I think everyone can find an appreciation for them. I believe that there is no bad maths/science student, only inadequate teachers. I am very patient and try to tailor sessions to each student’s personal learning style.

I've taken IB exams, the SAT, ACT, SAT Subject tests and have an American High School Diploma with a GPA of 4.31 (equivalent to A*). If you are thinking about taking any of these and want to familiarize yourself with them, ask away!

I am fluent in Spanish and German so I can help if your first language isn't English

Having taken a variety of university entry exams showed me that it isn’t just about how much you know but also about how good you are at taking tests. The structure of IB assessments lends itself particularly well to this. I’d be happy to help with preparation for internal and external IB exams as I have recently taken them and know their requierments.

If you are interested, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’d love to have a chat with you!

About my sessions

Teaching, learning and especially understanding is all about communicating the topic in the best possible way, which is different for each person. Because of this, I don’t think there is any one approach to learning that will work for most students. I plan sessions differently for each student to make sure I use the right approach.

Though I do not have a fixed approach for all students, some aspects of my sessions are established. Explanations and demonstrations of concepts are useful, but the best way to solidify what was learned is often through problem solving. This builds experience with the subject, underpins the concept with its application and improves critical thinking as well as problem solving skills.

I recognize the importance of understanding why a certain topic is relevant to be able to answer the question “Why are we learning this in school if we’re never going to need it in real life?”. I know from experience that it’s no fun to study something without understanding its’ significance to the real world and the difference it can make for a student to understand the relevance of the topic. I work not only on passing on the knowledge needed to do well in a class but also on making the process a positive experience.
