About me

Hello. I'm a final year Chemistry student at the University of Warwick. I find sciences to be very versatile and diverse subjects, and Chemistry is always throwing new and surprising challenges my way.

I know from experience that Chemistry and Maths can be very difficult subjects, especially at A level. I've found time and time again during my studies that the best way to tackle confusing concepts is to approach it in a way that makes sense to you. For example, I often find that visualising things as much as possible helps me get a clearer understanding. Interactive learning is also known to be one of the best ways to retain information, which is why tutoring, which focuses on the needs of one or a small group of students, is effective.

At university I am a member of the climbing club. It seems that climbing attracts a lot of scientists and mathematicians. I suppose that's because we like solving problems, and what climbing boils down to is solving a series of problems to get to the top. That's ultimately what studying is: taking the next concept and finding a way to get on top of it and move on to the next problem. It can be tough, but there's nothing like that feeling of satisfaction when you reach the top of the wall.

About my sessions

Many factors determine the grade you get at the end of a course. The amount of effort put in is, of course, probably the most important. However, I believe that you could spend hours reading a textbook and it would be of little help. Unless you actively engage with the material, you will struggle to retain the information.

Many factors determine the grade you get at the end of a course. The amount of effort put in is, of course, probably the most important. However, I believe that you could spend hours reading a textbook and it would be of little help. Unless you actively engage with the material, you will struggle to retain the information.

Therefore I will help my tutees learn their course material by going through questions and helping them to visualise and get to grips with the concepts, especially those they struggle with. The most effective way of revising for me was looking at past exam questions, as they applied the content I had been learning and gave me a good idea of what to expect. To help my tutees feel prepared for their exams I will encourage them to do the same and help them work through questions and practice exam technique.
