About me

Hi, I'm Laura, a final year Classicist at Exeter College, Oxford:

I've tutored Maths, Latin and English in the past and was incredibly pleased with the progress my tutees made.  I'm also heavily involved in Access projects at university, and have a lot of experience running sessions which advise applicants on how to tackle personal statements, admissions tests, and interviews.  The one-to-one support which MyTutorWeb enables us to offer will be even more beneficial to students, allowing them really to excel in their subjects.

I can confidently say that the past two years have been the best of my life - I love my subject and completely appreciate how incredible it is to be able to study it at one of the best universities in the world.  Hopefully this passion, along with a very thorough knowledge of what I'll be teaching, will inspire some great results!

I can promise that the sessions will be as varied as possible - there is a text which will best suit and engage every individual student, and sometimes a quick return to it is helpful as a reminder of what they actually like about their subject!  My schedule is very flexible, allowing me to arrange tutorials to suit the needs of my students, and also to cope easily with last-minute requests.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Questions Laura has answered

What do you need to know to do well in the CAT?

You are not expected to have any prior knowledge about ancient languages when taking this admissions test.  Rather, it is designed to test your aptitude - your ability to think in a way which will allow you to excel in this area.  Having a thorough knowledge of English grammar is very helpful, and in fact this is a good area in which to begin your preparation, as native speakers often find that the way in which they have learnt their native language means that they know it instinctively, rather than having a clear understanding of its grammar.  Aside from this, it is a good idea to look at the sample papers available on the university's website, which will enable you to get comfortable with the format of the exam and have some idea of what to expect.
