About me

4th Year Medical Student at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Achieved A*AAA at A Levels and 8 A*AB at GCSE. Maths was my favourite subject at school and I'd love the opportunity to help others improve on their skills in this subject. I've already had some experience with tutoring Maths in the past and wanted to build on this further.

I teach by going through examples and explaining each step of a problem to make sure the student has a good grasp of the fundamental concepts. I'm open to suggestions on what topics to cover and am happy to help with any existing questions or homework students may have

About my sessions

I plan on going over whatever problems students have using the online whiteboard. I've got access to a textbook which gives a good outline of topics that need to be covered. Through these, I'll be able to help students with their homework assignments; with learning different topics; and I'll be able to go through specific exam questions that they may be struggling with. Most Maths problems can be taught by going through a few examples so I'll try and teach things simply and quickly rather than tiring students out with hundreds of questions to do.

As far as measuring progress, I think that's best achieved by solving problems and seeing if you grasp the basics, so I'll go over a skill and then try and get you to apply it

Express 56 as the product of its prime factors

The key concept to understand is that a prime number is a number that can only be divided by itself and 1Because 56 is an even number this can be worked out fairly easily.56 can be split into 28 x 2.28 can be split into 14 x 214 can be split into 7 x 27 can't be split any further, therefore it is a prime numberSo the answer is the product of all the prime factors, which we find to be 7 x 2 x 2 x 2, also known as 7 x 23.The key concept to understand is that a prime number is a number that can only be divided by itself and 1Because 56 is an even number this can be worked out fairly easily.56 can be split into 28 x 2.28 can be split into 14 x 214 can be split into 7 x 27 can't be split any further, therefore it is a prime numberSo the answer is the product of all the prime factors, which we find to be 7 x 2 x 2 x 2, also known as 7 x 23.

Show that (x+1)(x+2)(x+3) can be written in the form of ax3 + bx2 + cx + d

This example requires expansion of the brackets, so it is easiest to focus on two pairs of brackets first then the lastExpanding the first pair will give you (x2+2x+x+2)(x+3)you can simplify the first bracket to give you (x2+3x+2)(x+3)So now expand the brackets once again...x3+3x2 + 3x2 + 9x +2x + 6= x3 + 6x2 + 11x + 6This example requires expansion of the brackets, so it is easiest to focus on two pairs of brackets first then the lastExpanding the first pair will give you (x2+2x+x+2)(x+3)you can simplify the first bracket to give you (x2+3x+2)(x+3)So now expand the brackets once again...x3+3x2 + 3x2 + 9x +2x + 6= x3 + 6x2 + 11x + 6
