I am currently Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Exeter. My teaching expertise is primarily in ancient philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, epistemology, ethics, history of philosophy, and philosophy of science.

Personal tutoring and writing support are core parts of my everyday duties. I am passionate about helping young minds achieving their potential and building confidence in their capacities. The primary aim of my teaching is to enable students to think clearly and for themselves; to learn how to discern arguments and evaluate them logically. I also committed to improving students' discussion and presentation skills. These are highly valuable and transferable skills, and enable students to function as good citizens beyond the university. I have been recently awarded “Best Teacher 2017” for the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at Exeter, for having provided “outstanding teaching and support to undergraduate students”.

In addition to that, I have a long-standing experience in teaching Italian at beginner, intermediate, and advanced level. I can offer a complete language training, as well as short-term preparation, focused on colloquial Italian to support study/work/holiday stay in Italy.

As a professional academic teacher, my sessions are highly structured and well tested. Yet, tailoring the course to students learning requirements and goals is always the first step in any pedagogical processes. The first session focuses on understanding which goals the student aims to achieve, her background and methodological starting capabilities. This first session is key to the success of the personal tutoring.

Each session is centred on clear and actionable Individual Learning Objectives (ILOs), anticipated before the session together with the suggested reading list. The session divides into three parts. The first is verifies and strengthen understanding of the material. The second develops and improve the critical abilities of the student through high-quality discussion and questioning. Finally, the third focuses on academic and pre-academic writing skills, an essential capability that each student needs to master. Overall, each teaching session aims to offer complete training that allows students to build their knowledge and confidence steadily, progressively and efficiently.

At the end of each session, ILOs are summarized, understanding of the student verified, and the objectives for the successive sessions introduced. Every two weeks I evaluate student's progress, asking to write a small essay concerning topics discussed previously, and discuss strengths and weakness of the work.

Truly a fantastic tutor. I had little knowledge of my syllabus and Andrea went through it slowly with me, making sure I understood every aspect of what I needed to know. He marked my essay and gave sound feedback so I knew what I would have to write in order to get a good mark in the exam. I have just done my final Alevel exam and I would not have done as well as I have without his help
