About me

Hi,

So a little bit about me to start, my name is Emily, I’m 19 and study law at Durham University. I chose law because it interests me, not in the way that I don't get bored by studying it but in the way that I really want to go out of my way to learn about it. I learnt this by completing the EPQ, which in essence is just a big essay on any question you want, I answered 'is there justice for the mentally ill’. I found this was the most enjoyable part of studying at college.

I learnt this by completing the EPQ, which in essence is just a big essay on any question you want, I answered 'is there justice for the mentally ill’. I found this was the most enjoyable part of studying at college.

So why choose me to tutor you? I have experience, during my A-level year I tutored an AS student in psychology; their grade started below a D in assessed work and by their final exam achieved a B. The sessions were voluntary, therefore my student continued because they found them beneficial. Also I have helped some of my own friends informally in Law, by offering to help them create revision materials and often explaining concepts that they hadn't quite grasped. Further, I have a younger sister and have helped her with her maths homework, she finds the way in which I explain the concepts easy to understand.

I hope this has given you confidence in my ability to be a successful tutor, no matter what the age I will find a style of tutoring that will work for you. As scary as exams are, being prepared makes them a little less scary, and thats what I’m here to help. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

About my sessions

So the structure, I am very open to how to structure the session; this is not because I am unorganised but because no two students are the same, everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, but also different preferred ways of learning, therefore I am happy to wait until we have the 15 min intro chat to make sure the structure works for you.

At the end of each session we can decide what you need to be covered in the next session. By doing week by week plans it will not only ensure our sessions run in line with your schools teaching but ensures that we cover everything you want to.

I am happy to help with whatever you need, anything from helping to learn masses of content, such as ways to remember numerous cases or studies, but I’m also happy to help advice with revision materials and things that I’ve found that work.

One of the most important things about learning is to have an interest in what your studying but also an end goal. Obviously not every aspect of every course will be riveting, but its about finding small aspects in every area that interest you, when you have this learning is less of a chore. Having a goal can be knowing what grades you want or need to get where you want to be next. A benefit of this is that you can see your progress and we can compare your current work with your goal and set mini check points, as such, for during the year to ensure you’re on track.

Emily has been such a great law tutor for me. She helped me gain confidence in law and get a grade I never thought I’d get. Her flexibility and commitment allowed me to enjoy learning about law (which I didn’t before). A really amazing law tutor, would really recommend!
