About me

Hi! I'm Lucy and I'm a current History of Art undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh with a background in English Literature and Religious Studies.

Hi! I'm Lucy and I'm a current History of Art undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh with a background in English Literature and Religious Studies.

Art has always been my passion, but it wasn't until I reached sixth form that I realised it was the lives of the artists I was studying and gaining inspiration from that really sparked my interest. That's when I decided to switch to History of Art, and I haven't looked back (but I'll still pick up a paintbrush from time to time)!

My expertise in History of Art covers all major art movements from the Ancient Greeks to modern day, and in addition I have a particular interest and specialist knowledge in global religious art, as well as a deep understanding of the often daunting topic of visual analysis (it's easy once you have the techniques to tackle it!).

What I love about History of Art is that, once you get past the nitty gritties of technique and form in essay writing, you get to explore human history through its artistic output, as well as learning how to read paintings, sculptures and buildings. My goal is to get you to that point, so you can really enjoy the subject - and even enjoy writing essays!

Over the years I've gained knowledge and experience across the board of humanities subjects, and am a firm believer that the right tools, techniques and practise allows anyone to produce stunning essays, in any subject!

The most important tool for any student is being able to write convincingly - and that involves bringing together content and technique to form a compelling argument.

Depending on your needs, we will cover all aspects; from leading you through the background and story of particular movements, to perfecting visual analysis (and how to seamlessly incorporate it into an essay!).

In sessions we will discuss images, plan essays, and prepare for potential exams, and work on technique to help you fly through the course.

Lucy is an absolutely amazing tutor. As a dyslexic I had never really had any teacher believe that I had a particular capability for English, least of all my year 11 English teacher who saw my dyslexia as a full on barrier that could not be overcome. My aim from the beginning of my extra English tuition was to get and A in English Lit and I surpassed all my expectations achieving an A*. I found each lesson with Lucy inspiring and she really made me enjoy English Lit I really appreciate the time she took to do extra research on historical contexts with both the texts I did (A separate peace and Macbeth) Along side my poetry anthology (songs of ourselves volume 2) so that I could gain a wider understanding of what ever I was studying. Overall would Totally recommend Lucy as a tutor.
