About me

My name is Oliver Newcombe and I am an Undergraduate at the University of Bristol studying for a BSc in Politics and International Relations.

My name is Oliver Newcombe and I am an Undergraduate at the University of Bristol studying for a BSc in Politics and International Relations.

I belive that my A-Level subjects and my degree provide me with an excellent basis for teaching in the humanities field. My A-Levels: History (A*), RS (A*) and Business (A*) means that I have a very wide base of subject areas and I have covered topics from the evolution of Tudor government to the life of Muhammad and even to how globalisation has impacted the profitability of businesses. Therefore, this means I can easily adapt to a wide range of topics.

My degree has also given me great breadth in the field of humanities. My degree includes topics that would come close to philosophy such as political philosophy and thoought to the impacts of colonialisation and even to more current topics such as how we can attempt to make the world more peaceful.

In both my A-Levels and my degree I have aquired some key skills such as analysis, evaluation, application, knowledge, statistial analysis, research, coursework skills and learning independently. I hope that I can pass theese skills onto my tutees.

About my sessions

First of all I believe it is very important to establish some key aims and objectives both in the long-term and in the short-term. Within the session, I would want to establish what needs to be done and then at the end of the session I can evaluate with the tutee whether we have achieved what we set out to do or not.

Within the session, I would want to establish what needs to be done and then at the end of the session I can evaluate with the tutee whether we have achieved what we set out to do or not.

In the bulk of the session I would want to ask my tutee what they struggle with, and then I would want to try and reteach them that topic to see if they gain a greater understanding, afterwards I would also want to give them some homework to consolidate the session.

At the end of the session, I would want to look to the next session and perhaps give my tutee some preparatory reading or some prep questions, which then I could mark beforehand so that I have something to work with in the next session.

My son really enjoyed working with Ollie. He is a fantastic tutor and worked my son out quickly as to what methods would work for him. Turning a subject he had no interest in at all to actually enjoying it. Well done Ollie. Really impressive. I wish you all the best. I would highly recommend Ollie as a tutor who will get the best out of your child.
