About me

Hi! I'm a third year Chemistry & German student at UCL. I love my degree as I'm able to combine my inquisitive nature with a language, which opens the door to new people and cultures. Next year I will carry out an extensive research project in Germany, hopefully focussing on techniques that mitigate climate change.

Hi! I'm a third year Chemistry & German student at UCL. I love my degree as I'm able to combine my inquisitive nature with a language, which opens the door to new people and cultures. Next year I will carry out an extensive research project in Germany, hopefully focussing on techniques that mitigate climate change.

For my GCSEs, I managed to obtain 10 A*s and I think this was down to self-study. I was able to learn techniques that will benefit other students. I would recite information I had learnt and this developed my ability to explain and communicate concepts clearly. Although I found studying for my GCSEs extremely rewarding, I would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss topics with a tutor. Having something explained by a fellow student, who is far more aware of your situation than most adults, is extremely helpful.

My focus will be on improving the skills students need for GCSEs by showing them revision techniques and how to approach exam questions. I hope to enable them to discover which learning styles work for them, and to use these to provide clarity on both basic and more complicated elements. I hope that feeling of finally getting to grips with a difficult concept, or being able to look at a question and know instantly what has to be done, will inspire students as it did me.

At university, I also explore my interests outside chemistry. I write articles for The Amnesty Journal and I'm part of the Law for All society.

About my sessions

I will structure my tutorials around the needs of the students. I want to find out what they know and help them gain confidence. I would like to know if there are any areas they want to focus on. It may be worth going over topics they are covering in school.

I aim to develop their content knowledge and exam skills. To do this, I will make sure they understand basic concepts by asking simple questions and build on this. I will make it clear which parts need to be learnt, how the topics can be broken down and which revision techniques can be useful.

In my sessions, I will look at past paper questions and how to approach them. If there are some gaps or hurdles in the knowledge, more time will be spent on this. I will encourage the students to create revision cards etc. in their own time to help consolidate any learning we have done. If they are stuck on anything I would be happy to go through this in the session.

To prepare, I will decide which topic to focus on and find relevant questions, textbook pages and resources. I will set a clear aim for each tutorial. To measure progress, I think it is beneficial to have short tests in each session. Larger tests should be done once we have completed a topic or when they feel ready to test themselves. This will help them to practice in exam conditions.

On the whole, I want students to feel proud of their results and develop a love of learning.
