About me

Hello,

My name is Lucy. I am a second year History and Politics student at the University of Nottingham, originally from Essex.

My interest in History and Politics is evident in my degree choice and can only be expressed further by the fact that I would like to teach it once I have graduated. I am fascinated by the field, particularly with a focus on American history and politics, however have had the opportunity to study a range of periods and theories.

Something I really enjoyed at A-level was Sociology, which I was able to obtain an A* in. I not only thoroughly enjoy the subject, but believe there is a code to ensure success in A-levels in general and meant I was able to achieve A*AAA.

In my spare time I am heavily involved in musical theatre and helping projects encouraging children to get informed and involved in higher education.

I believe I could be of great assistance to a GCSE or A-level student and look forward to the ongoing experiences of being a tutor for MyTutor.

About my sessions

I would begin the sessions asking what the student's needs are and what they intend to get out of our sessions. I believe a fundamental part of learning is to understand the basic concepts and build from those, for if you can understand the elementary content then it will make the general process far easier. I would put a profound focus on people and dates then build on additional information afterwards. Not having a grasp of the basic concepts can be a hinderance (what is functionalism,...

Not having a grasp of the basic concepts can be a hinderance (what is functionalism, what was the Third Reich etc?) so would be of utmost importance to highlight these. My personal aim is to make the student however feel extremely comfortable in this type of learning environment and ensure that no question is unnecessary or 'stupid'. I understand how overwhelming the exam period and learning vast amounts of

content can be and therefore, I can guarantee clarity and approachability. Essential , I believe is exam technique. Therefore, me and the student would make sure this was understood. This is most effectively done by going through questions together, then me setting questions for us to come back to and look through together. Progress would also be measured by tests and verbal response in to how the student thinks they are personally progressing and if they are noticing a difference in their grades.
