About me

I chose to study French and Spanish for many reasons, but here are two.

Better career opportunities and an impressive CV. It’s pretty cool to speak the lingo to the locals on holiday!

French and Spanish go hand-in-hand. Their grammar structures are similar, and a lot of the vocabulary looks the same on paper. I have first-hand experience of working in the languages in their respective countries, with over a year’s experience in France working in Geneva and Paris, and I’m currently living in Bilbao, Spain for my Year Abroad, teaching English in a Basque primary school.

When I was studying for my GCSEs and A-Levels, there was often a focus on memorising a passage of text or regurgitating information in our speaking exam. I believe this is not the way to learn a language!

There are easy tricks to improving your language, and enjoying the process along the way. I’d love to help you work on building your skills and steering clear of the memorising philosophy that so many students have when it comes to sitting their language exams.

Outside of my studies, I was President of the Spanish Society in my second year and a member of a number of Performing Arts groups. I love to dance in my free time; you’ll often see me tap dancing my way round the supermarket!

Hasta luego / à bientôt!

Questions Alice has answered

How do you use direct object pronouns in French?

To avoid repeating ourselves in English we often replace a noun with it. In French we use the direct object pronouns: le, la and les in place of their respective gender noun. They come before the verb, and are abbreviated to l' if they are directly before a vowel or silent h. For example: Tu vois le dauphin dans la mer? - Oui je vois le dauphin dans la mer.  We can shorten this with the direct object pronoun le.  Tu vois le dauphin dans la mer? - Oui je le vois.
