About me

Hey! I'm Katie. I recently finished a BA in Jurisprudence (Law) at Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating with a first class degree. I did the IB at a school in the UK. Before that, I was living in China, where I did my iGCSEs.

I decided study Law for a number of reasons. Chief amongst them was the fact that the Law permeates every element of our lives, and the various areas of law differ hugely in character and content. The cumulative effect of these two features of the subject is to allow one to explore greatly different subjects each term, ensuring that the subject constantly feels engaging, new and exciting. Further to this, the relevance of much at what you learn to everyday life adds further interest to the study of the subject.

While at university, I also got involved in lots of extracurricular activities. I particularly enjoyed getting involved in student drama and working for a student newspaper called "The Cherwell".

My time in both secondary and tertiary education has allowed me to refine my approach to both examinations and university applications, and I feel confident in my ability to guide others in these endeavours.

About my sessions

In my opinion, it is of primary importance that each tutorial is tailored to the needs of the individual student, as such tailoring ensures that the sessions will give the student the best opportunity to achieve their goals. To that end, my sessions are based around detailed discussion with each student about exactly what they want the achieve through the sessions. In order to boost the efficacy of the sessions, I will often supplement the hour-long session with extra work to be completed and...

In order to boost the efficacy of the sessions, I will often supplement the hour-long session with extra work to be completed and returned between the tutorials so that it can be discussed thereafter, or reading for the student to do which we will thereafter discuss. The format of the tutorials themselves is fairly discursive, in the sense that the student will be answering questions often so as not to remain passive throughout, as one might in a class with a larger group of students.

During sessions focused on preparing for examinations, my own preference is to split the session, usually by 40 minutes to 20 minutes, so that the first part focuses on content work, which is followed by exam technique and practice questions. I find that this gives the student time to first go over course content, building their understanding and confidence therein, and then solidify that knowledge and develop technique through practice questions. In my own revision, I found this pattern of revision to be highly effective.
